Among patients attending primary health care due to a musculo-skeletal cause, shoulder pain is the third most common disorder after neck- and low-back pain. The most prevalent aetiologies are over-use injuries, degenerative mechanisms and acute injuries. Approximately half of the cases has a subacromial cause. Subacromial pain is often persistent and affects the patients’ functional activities. This motivates the field of research. Other common explanations to shoulder problems are frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) or gleno-humeral hyper-laxity with instability phenomenon.
Since this research questions originates from everyday clinical practice, implementation is facilitated.
