Care for children born extremely preterm—that is, before the 28th week of pregnancy—has improved enormously over the past twenty years. Through the national neonatal follow-up program, children born extremely preterm are continuously monitored from birth until they start school. Today, we know a great deal about the development of children born extremely preterm, including the fact that, as a group, they develop well and are satisfied with their lives. We are also aware of certain challenges; for instance, some of them may require extra support regarding social and communicative development.

The research project targets all families with extremely preterm infants. We aim to investigate whether early support for parents helps foster the child's social and communicative development.
