Electronic individual study plans - ISP
Under Section 29 of the Higher 一本道 Ordinance, and individual study plan must be drawn up for each doctoral student. After a decision on admission, the principal supervisor starts work on the electronic individual study plan, ISP. Following that, the doctoral student and the principal supervisor can enter the system and work together.
During 2026, LiU will leave eISP and transition to ISP in Ladok. The provider of eISP will stop maintaining the system for other higher education institutions. eISP will therefore be phased out. From autumn 2025 until October 2026, eISP will also run in parallel.

Start seminar
When working on the ISP, book a time for your start seminar with the doctoral studies coordinator. A start seminar must take place within two months of admission.
Activity reporting and annual follow-up
The doctoral student and supervisor are responsible for:
- Reporting of research activity.
- Reporting of completed courses and other modules.
- Carrying out annual follow-up.
Half-time seminar
A half-time seminar is a compulsory, publicly announced seminar at which your scientific work is discussed. The purpose of the half-time seminar is to review the quality of the thesis project and the progress of the doctoral student and to provide assistance with the planning of further work.
The half-time seminar must be conducted no later than two years after admission for full-time studies (or no later than four years after admission for part-time studies), or, if this happens earlier, when two articles have been submitted for publication. The principal supervisor, in consultation with the doctoral student and the subject representative, submits a notification of a half-time seminar to the director of doctoral studies (FUS).
Half-time seminars in doctoral studies are normally held at University Hospital Campus (Campus US), or Campus Norrk枚ping, but can also be conducted at at Vrinnevi Hospital in Norrk枚ping, at Ryhov County Hospital in J枚nk枚ping or at Kalmar County Hospital if the doctoral student has close ties to one of these establishments.. The expert reviewers may participate digitally.
