Ò»±¾µÀ

Welcome to apply for a job at the Department of Mathematics at Ò»±¾µÀ University.

Meet your future colleagues

Jana Björn

I enjoy sharing the beauty of mathematics with the students. I really like to think about how complicated topics can be explained in a simple way. Seeing a student suddenly understand some difficult problem is very gratifying.

My research is about potential theory and differential equations on quite general metric spaces. Much of it deals with understanding the interplay between the geometry of these spaces and the functions that live on them. In particular, I study boundary value problems for p-harmonic functions, which can be seen as prototypes of nonlinear minimization problems. I find it very exciting to discover new phenomena and properties of these functions. Doing this in the generality of metric spaces, where there are less tools available, means that new methods have to be invented. At the same time, it also shows which properties and notions are really important for the theory. Moreover, many of our results are new also for the usual Euclidean spaces and for manifolds. In Sweden, it is mainly my research group that does this type of analysis on metric spaces but we have a lot of collaborations all over the world.

Our division of Analysis and Mathematics Ò»±¾µÀ is rather small with an open and friendly environment. So I hope that we can expand it by recruiting more colleagues and graduate students.

Jan Glaubitz

I see great potential for interdisciplinary collaborations, especially in Mathematical Statistics and Optimization, and I look forward to connecting with colleagues across these diverse fields.

What attracted you to MAI?

The computational mathematics subject area at TIMA, though small (and I hope it will expand in the coming years), is world-renowned. My colleagues Jan Nordström and Andrew Winters are leading figures in the computational fluid dynamics community, and it is an exciting opportunity for me to build my group with their mentorship.

Additionally, I had very constructive and positive discussions with the Head of Division, Martin Singull, which made joining the team even more appealing.

Roghayeh Hajizadeh

Combining teaching and research in optimization is incredibly fulfilling. It involves not only exploring the depth of optimization theories and methods in research but also sharing the knowledge.

Daniel Carlsson

Students in different programs have varying backgrounds and goals for their education. Meeting them where they are, and helping them develop towards their goals, is very stimulating for me.

Teaching is important to Daniel Carlsson, lecturer at the Division of Algebra, Geometry and Discrete Mathematics at MAI. Seeing people grow and develop in their abilities is a common thread in his work. He has taught at the Department of Mathematics for thirty years in various educational programs within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and in various teacher training programs within Faculty of Ò»±¾µÀal Sciences. Daniel Carlsson is also the operations manager for Maths Coach Online in Linköping, where he is responsible for running and developing the operations in the region and nationally. The aim is to provide students in primary and secondary schools with qualified supervision, develop future teachers and conduct research on learning via the internet.
