How can nurses help heart failure patients achieve a good quality of life? Self-care is essential for these patients. I am interested in using technology to support self-care for individuals living with heart failure.

Research: Self-Care Support for Patients with Chronic and Advanced Heart Failure

Heart failure (HF) is a globally prevalent and costly condition, characterized by a substantial symptom burden and frequent hospitalizations. My research focuses on self-care among patients with chronic and advanced heart failure. I am currently leading two projects. The first focuses on heart failure management using an innovative monitoring technology—Remote Dielectric Sensing (ReDS). We are conducting a randomized controlled trial to evaluate the effectiveness of non-invasive lung fluid monitoring for heart failure management in primary care (LiLAC-HF).

Please visit our website to learn more.

The second project focuses on supporting self-care among patients with a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). We are currently involved in several international initiatives aimed at enhancing self-care support for this patient group.
As part of this work, we have developed an instrument to measure self-care behaviours in individuals living with an LVAD. The instrument has been translated into several languages.

If you are interested in our LVAD Self-Care Scale, please visit our dedicated website for more information.
